What is fineline?

Fineline tattoos came into existence when finer needles and more preside machines became available in the tattoo world, though original techniques have links to Polynesian and Southeast Asian traditional tattoos which have long utilised the use of fine lines.

The ‘fineline’ tattoos that we know today came from a number of famous tattoo artists in the US, California, where there was more experimentation and boundaries pushed to create smaller and more refined illustrations on skin. These tattoos are characterised by the use of small 3RL (or smaller) needles.

Fineline tattoos include minimalism, illustrative and micro-realism styles.
